About Us.

As a neurologist, I am trained to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with disease affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. This includes but is not limited to conditions like stroke, migraines, seizures, dementia and Parkinson’s Disease just to name a few. One of the challenges faced by this patient population is the feeling of helplessness and hopelessness felt by them and their families. The fear of the unknown that comes with living with a neurologic disorder can certainly be crippling.

I am always a surprised at how little people know about their neurologic condition. This lack of understanding lays the foundation for fear and intimidation to thrive. It also makes it difficult for them to “get on board” when it comes to taking their medication as prescribed and following up with their care team. For example, if a patient has a poor understanding of stroke and the associated risk factors, it would be challenging for them to take their blood pressure medication as prescribed. I cannot tell the numerous times I have heard patients say, “I don’t think I need to take my medication anymore because I feel fine.” When in fact the reason they are feeling fine is because they were taking their medication.

In order to effectively combat these misconceptions when it comes to the diagnosis and management of neurologic disorders, it is imperative that clinicians spend time educating patients, families and their caregivers about their specific disease. In addition, there needs to be constant reinforcement that life with a neurologic disorder looks different but it is still worth the living.

It is out of this need to improve health literacy, disease awareness and provide patient and to a larger extent family and caregiver support that My Daily Neuro was birthed. The site is designed as a community resource where one can learn about common neurologic disorders; access resources and tools to help you live a successful and fulfilling life.
